Sources & methodology
This tool estimates structural engineer fees by multiplying the total construction value by a fee rate that depends on project complexity, then applying a minimum fee floor: minor scope (e.g. single beam or header sizing) uses 0.5% of construction value or a $700 floor, whichever is greater; standard scope (e.g. residential addition or framing review) uses 0.8% or a $1,200 floor; complex scope (e.g. major alterations or full addition/conversion design) uses 1.5% or a $2,800 floor. Sales tax, where applicable, is added to the net fee. Results are approximate and will vary based on project scope, site conditions, engineer experience, and regional market rates.
