Sources & methodology

The calculator estimates the number of permeable pavers and the volume of sub-base aggregate required for a given paved area. Paver quantity is derived by converting the block's length and width from inches to feet, computing the face area of one block in square feet, dividing the total paved area by that block area, then scaling up by a wastage factor to account for cuts and breakage; the default 7% wastage sits within the standard 5-10% range for cut-to-fit paver installations. Sub-base volume is calculated in cubic yards from the project area and the user-specified depth (converted from inches to feet), using a 14-inch default depth broadly consistent with ICPI recommendations for residential permeable interlocking concrete pavement (PICP) in moderate freeze-thaw climates. Actual sub-base depth and gradation should be confirmed with a geotechnical assessment or local paving contractor, since site soil and drainage conditions vary.
