This tool determines the minimum bearing length a lintel must have on each side of a masonry opening, based on the IRC R606.9/R607.3 stepped table: openings up to 4 ft require 4 inches of bearing, openings from 4 to 6 ft require 6 inches, and openings over 6 ft require 8 inches. The lookup is driven solely by the clear opening width entered by the user. No structural sizing, load calculations, or deflection checks are performed; the output reflects code-minimum bearing only, not full lintel design.
