This tool calculates the gross (ordered) quantity of a material by applying a user-supplied waste factor to a net (measured) quantity using the standard construction estimating formula: Q_g = Q_n × (1 + w), where w is the waste factor expressed as a decimal. The gross quantity represents how much material must be purchased to cover the installed area or volume after accounting for anticipated waste from cuts, breakage, and off-cuts. This multiplicative approach is the industry-standard method used in US construction estimating practice.
